Observe Cat Tien’s remarkable primates, including the Black-shanked Douc Langur, Southern Yellow-cheeked Gibbon, Long-tailed Macaque, Northern Pig-tailed Macaque and, with luck, the elusive Malayan Colugo (Flying Lemur), guided by experienced local wildlife specialists.

Search for large mammals and grassland wildlife during afternoon and evening excursions, with opportunities to encounter Sambar Deer, Muntjac, Wild Boar, Gaur (seasonal), Black Giant Squirrel and numerous other forest mammals.

Cat Tien national park, a biodiversity hotspot in Viet Nam, offers a fascinating glimpse into untouched wilderness. With its evergreen forests, grasslands, and wetlands, this destination is perfect for nature and wildlife enthusiasts. Whether you’re trekking through ancient trees or spotting nocturnal creatures, Cat Tien promises an unforgettable adventure.

Day 1: Primates and bird watching on the boat trip

Begin your journey with a scenic drive from Ho Chi Minh city to Cat Tien pational park (approximately 04 hours) or Or travel from Da Lat city to Cat Tien national park. The drive takes approximately 5 to 6 hours,

15:30 PM: Through the forest along with exotic birds like parakeets and hornbills, wildlife highlights where Black-Shanked Douc Langurs (Pygathrix nigripes), Long – tailed Macaque (Macaca fascicularis) and various birds make an appearance such as Oriental-pied Hornbill,  Racket – tailed Treepie, Ashy Drongos, flock of Little Egrets, Cattle Egrets, Great Egrets, Chinese Pond- Herons, Black-crowned Night Herons. Can see the Common Kingfisher, Pied Kingfisher, and White-throated Kingfisher and Stork-billed Kingfidher and more in the breeding season. Unveils towering trees such as Tetrameles nudiflora and Lagerstroemia speciosa (return the same way)

Day 2: Wild gibbon and mammals exploration

04:45 AM: Southern Yellow-cheeked Gibbon (Nomascus gabriellae) tour

Begin your early morning wild gibbon trek, following the calls of Southern Yellow-cheeked Gibbon (Nomascus gabriellae) through the evergreen forest. Other wildlife may include: Black-shanked Douc Langur (Pygathrix nigripes), Pig-tailed Macaque, Malayan flying Lemur, Eastern striped and Pallas’ squirrel

You will have the opportunity to observe and photograph the Southern Yellow-cheeked Gibbon (Nomascus gabriellae) as it forages, cares for its young and communicates with other family members during the early morning. Witnessing the gibbons’ remarkable dawn chorus in their natural habitat is one of the most memorable wildlife experiences in Cat Tien National Park.

The Southern Yellow-cheeked Gibbon is found only in southern Vietnam and eastern Cambodia. Adult males have black fur with distinctive golden-yellow cheeks, while adult females and juveniles are pale yellow to buff in colour. Like all apes, gibbons have no tail and possess exceptionally long arms, enabling them to move effortlessly through the forest canopy.

The species is currently classified as Endangered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, primarily due to habitat loss, forest fragmentation and illegal hunting.

08:30 AM: Dao Tien Island is located approximately 10 minutes by boat along the Dong Nai River from the main headquarters of Cat Tien National Park. The centre is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. During a short guided walk of approximately 02 km along a paved road through the tranquil 56-hectare forest, visitors will learn about the centre’s vital conservation work and have the opportunity to observe endangered primates, including Black-shanked Doucs, Silvered Langurs, Southern Yellow-cheeked Gibbon, and Pygmy Slow Lorises.

15:00 PM. Explore Cat Tien’s grassland ecosystem in search of wildlife. This habitat provides opportunities to observe and photograph a range of species including Green Peafowl, Oriental-Pied Hornbill, Sambar Deer, Wild Boar, Muntjac, Common Palm Civet; Asian Small-clawed Otter; Yellow-throated Marten; Large-toothed Ferret Badger; Small Indian Civet and Various ground-dwelling birds. Other mammals active during the late afternoon as dusk approaches, wildlife activity often increases, creating excellent conditions for observation and photography.

Day 3: Exploring Cat Tien National Park

06:30: The route passes through pristine lowland rainforest and offers opportunities to encounter Black-shanked Douc Langur, Annamese Langur, Southern Yellow-cheeked Gibbon, Black Giant Squirrel,  and Woodpeckers, Boardbills, Hornbills and Kingfishers

11:30 AM – Depart Cat Tien national park

The tour offers opportunities to observe a variety of wildlife groups and species in their natural habitat

Primates: Critically Endangered as Black-shanked douc langur; Near Endemic such as Yellow-cheeked gibbon; Pig-tailed macaques; Long-tailed macaques

Birds: Near Endemic such as Green Peafowl, Germain’s Peacock-Pheasant, Siamese Fireback, Green-legged & Orange-necked Partridge, Chinese Francolin; Bar-bellied & Blue-rumped Pitta, Pitta Gray-faced Tit-Babbler, Indochinese Babbler. Several species of woodpeckers can be found such as White-bellied, Great Slaty, Pale-headed, Heart-spotted, Black and Buff, Laced, Grey-capped, Pygmy, and Rufous, White-browed Piculet. Great Flameback, Greater Yellownape, Lesser Yellownape … Nocturnal species such as   Great Eared & Large-tailed Nightjar, Asian Barred Owlet, Collared Scops & Brown Hawk Owl, Javan Frogmouth And many more species. Other target species include Gray-headed Fish-Eagle, Collared Falconet, Great Hornbill, Oriental-pied Hornbill, Black-and-red Broadbill, Banded Broadbill, Dusky Broadbill,  Woolly-necked Stork, Lesser Adjutant Orange-breasted Trogon,  Red-headed Trogon, Banded Kingfisher, Blue-bearded Bee-eater,  Black-hooded Oriole,  Red-breasted Parakeet, Little Spiderhunter, Crimson Sunbird & Olive-backed Sunbird and more.
