Cat Tien National Park is one of Southeast Asia’s most important lowland tropical rainforest ecosystems and a recognised biodiversity hotspot in southern Vietnam. Located approximately 175 km from the Tan Son Nhat airport station, Ho Chi Minh City, the park protects extensive evergreen forest, wetlands, grasslands, and riverine habitats that support an extraordinary diversity of wildlife. This specialist wildlife tour has been designed for nature enthusiasts, wildlife photographers, birdwatchers, conservation travellers, and primate lovers seeking authentic encounters with some of Vietnam’s rarest species. Participants will explore a variety of habitats in search of endangered primates, pheasants, waterbirds, crocodiles, and mammals while learning about conservation initiatives that safeguard Cat Tien’s unique biodiversity

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Grassland Wildlife and Green Peafowl Exploration

08:00 AM. Depart from Ho Chi Minh City or Da Lat and travel to Cat Tien National Park. Upon arrival, check in and receive a briefing on the park’s wildlife, habitats, and conservation significance.

15:00 PM. Explore Cat Tien’s grassland ecosystem in search of wildlife. This habitat provides opportunities to observe and photograph a range of species including Green Peafowl, Oriental-Pied Hornbill, Sambar Deer, Wild Boar, Muntjac, Various ground-dwelling birds . Other mammals active during the late afternoon as dusk approaches, wildlife activity often increases, creating excellent conditions for observation and photography.

Day 2: Gibbons and Black-shanked Douc Langurs, Primates of Cat Tien

06:00 AM. Early morning boat excursion along the Dong Nai River. The river corridor is an important habitat for kingfishers, herons, egrets, raptors, and other wildlife Douc Langurs and Long tailed Macaque. Morning light provides excellent opportunities for photography. Return for breakfast.

08:30 AM. Visit the primate conservation area near the park headquarters to photograph and observe Southern Yellow-cheeked Gibbons family within a semi-wild environment that supports conservation education and wildlife awareness. Learn about primate conservation efforts and the ecological importance of gibbons in tropical forest ecosystems. Lunch and rest.

15:00 PM. Travel to the Primary forest area to search for endangered primates Black-shanked Douc Langur, Annamese Silvered Langur. This colourful leaf-eating monkey is endemic to parts of Vietnam and Cambodia and is considered globally endangered. Cat Tien National Park remains one of the best locations in Vietnam for observing this species in its natural habitat. Late afternoon often provides favourable opportunities for observation and photography.

Day 3: Bird Photography and Crocodile Lake Adventure

06:30 AM. Bird photography session from a specialised forest bird hide. Cat Tien is internationally recognised as one of Vietnam’s leading birdwatching destinations and supports more than 350 recorded bird species. Potential photographic subjects may include Germain’s Peacock-Pheasant, Siamese fireback, Green Legged Partridge, Babblers, Bulbuls and various laughingthrushes and flycatchers. Species sightings vary according to season and natural conditions.

Lunch and rest.

14:00 PM. Transfer to the Crocodile Lake access point. Travel approximately 9 km through the forest by vehicle or bicycle, followed by a 5 km guided trek to Crocodile Lake. The route passes through pristine lowland rainforest and offers opportunities to encounter Black-shanked Douc Langur, Annamese Langur, Southern Yellow-cheeked Gibbon and Woodpeckers, Hornbills and Reptiles and amphibians.

Arrive at Crocodile Lake, one of the most significant wetland ecosystems within Cat TienNational Park. This unique habitat provides excellent opportunities for wildlife observation, with possible sightings of the Pygmy Slow Loris, Yellow-throated Marten, Large-toothed Ferret Badger, Common Palm Civet, Small Indian Civet, Fishing Cat, Sunda Pangolin, and a variety of other mammal species.

Day 4: Siamese Crocodile and Wetland Birds in Cat Tien National Park

06:30 AM: Early morning rowing excursion on Crocodile Lake. This internationally significant wetland supports a diverse community of waterbirds and is one of the few locations in Vietnam where the critically endangered Siamese Crocodile has been successfully restored through long-term conservation programmes. Potential wildlife observations include Siamese Crocodile, Green Peafowl, Cotton Pygmy Geese, Lesser Adjutant, Asian Woolly-necked Stork, Grey-headed Fish Eagle, Oriental Darter, Purple Heron, Egrets and kingfishers … Other wetland bird and mammal species. The calm morning conditions provide excellent opportunities for wildlife observation and photography.

08:30 AM. Embark on a forest trek through Cát Tiên National Park’s lowland rainforest, home to towering trees such as Tetrameles nudiflora and Lagerstroemia speciosa. As you explore the forest, keep an eye out for parakeets, hornbills, Black-shanked Douc Langur, Annamese Langur, Northern Pig-tailed Macaques, Long-tailed Macaques, Black Giant Squirrels, and a variety of reptiles, including the Chinese Water Dragon, Cát Tiên Bent-toed Gecko, Reticulated Python, and Ruby-eyed Pit Viper, Gunther’s Kukri Snake. The excursion features a guided 5 km walk through the surrounding forest before returning to the park headquarters.

12:30 PM. Depart Cat Tien National Park

Bird: Near Endemic such as Green Peafowl, Germain’s Peacock-Pheasant, Siamese Fireback, Green-legged & Orange-necked Partridge, Chinese Francolin; Bar-bellied & Blue-rumped Pitta, Pitta Gray-faced Tit-Babbler, Indochinese Babbler. Several species of woodpeckers can be found such as White-bellied, Great Slaty, Pale-headed, Heart-spotted, Black and Buff, Laced, Grey-capped, Pygmy, and Rufous, White-browed Piculet. Great Flameback, Greater Yellownape, Lesser Yellownape … Nocturnal species such as   Great Eared & Large-tailed Nightjar, Asian Barred Owlet, Collared Scops & Brown Hawk Owl, Javan Frogmouth And many more species. Other target species include Gray-headed Fish-Eagle, Collared Falconet, Great Hornbill, Oriental-pied Hornbill, Black-and-red Broadbill, Banded Broadbill, Dusky Broadbill,  Woolly-necked Stork, Lesser Adjutant Orange-breasted Trogon,  Red-headed Trogon, Banded Kingfisher, Blue-bearded Bee-eater,  Black-hooded Oriole,  Red-breasted Parakeet, Little Spiderhunter, Crimson Sunbird & Olive-backed Sunbird and more.
